This has been an evolving idea that started with my husband and I wanting to write a travel blog. blah. Everyone has a travel blog. Even the preliminary name of my to-be travel blog was taken… by a travel blog. Its so great to talk about the enamour of visiting new places and eating great food and splurging all your savings on so many fun activities!!! BUT parenthood. Although we still travel some and intend to share our journeys, the world as we knew it was altered when we saw that tiny plus symbol. As husband and wife we continually evolve as a couple and now parents to find ways to remain connected in the chaos of new family life. We have to keep up with the demands of work and home life while still making time to connect, build our intimacy, and gain better understanding of each other. Our son August is our world. We love seeing how he develops and learns new skills. We love dreaming what kind of human he will become and debating if he will look more like his mama or his dada (probs his mama, you be the judge). There is such a wonder in raising a child. You see the world through a new lens, you get to relive the enchantment of make believe, hide and seek, playing chase, and giggling like you’ve never giggled before.
We want to be intentional about how we raise August and any other children in our future. We want to show him the beauty of the world is not in material things, but in the people you meet and serve, the places you visit, and the memories you make along the way. We want August to know and follow Jesus, and the best way to do that is show him how it’s done. Whether serving at our church or waking up early for Homeless outreach or walking up to someone to tell them they are beautiful; we want August to witness this, to join us, and ultimately to develop a passion for loving God and others before himself.
I have found an inexplicable blessing when you open your heart to others and allow yourself to be vulnerable and to be known. In return you create community, share struggles and reflect on areas of your life that may not be fully realized if you don’t take the time to digest. Serving God, building a solid marriage with the love of my life and motherhood are all areas I will not take for granted. I do not want to forget the many emotions, up and down that happen along the way. Cheers to the start of this blog and enjoy the journey as we Raise Up Wonder.
